Baltika Breweries proved the management system compliance with the international standardsBaltika Breweries, part of the Carlsberg Group, passed the large-scale audit of all breweries and proved compliance of the integrated management systems (IMS) to five international standards. This year the company also got certified to ISO 50001 energy management standard for the first time.

Certification audit was held by еру independent international body DNV GL. In order to prove compliance of the integrated management systems with the international standards, company has to pass such audit once in three years. Last time Baltika Breweries went through the procedure in 2014, when the integrated management system had been implemented. At that time it united management systems of quality management (ISO 9001), environmental protection (ISO 14001), occupational health and safety (OHSAS 18001), and food safety (ISO 22000). Then Baltika Brewries became the first Carlsberg Group company, which implemented IMS.

This year, the company not only proved compliance with four implemented standards but also for the first time certified its energy management system in accordance with the ISO 50001 international standard.

Baltika Breweries started to implement the ISO 50001 standard by becoming the first Russian participant who joined the project “Market Transformation Programme on Energy Efficiency in GHG-intensive industries in Russia” realized by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO). The project is aimed at increasing the energy efficiency of the country’s industry by implementing an energy management system that meets the ISO 50001 international standard.

Baltika Breweries proved the management system compliance with the international standardsNew energy management system helped Baltika Breweries to build efficient business processes and to apply certain methods to manage employees, information and technologies to reduce energy consumption.

As a result of different activities aimed at increasing energy efficiency, in 2016, the company managed to reduce specific consumption of heat by 26%, electricity by 14% in comparison to 2014.

Apart from the reduction of resources consumption and cost savings the improvements led to many parallel benefits: maintain high quality of products, increase equipment reliability, improve cross-functional cooperation and motivation of employees.

Igor Postovit, lead auditor in DNV GL, Russia: “Baltika’s integrated management system is unique as it has united all major management systems, including energy management. The audit proved efficiency of the company’s business processes.  Among the achievements, we noted that Baltika was able to link ISM with economic results, ensured employees’ engagement in the organization improvement. All of that demonstrates Baltika’s high requirements to organization and product quality”.

“We are proud that Baltika Breweries was the first among Carlsberg Group companies to implement ISO 50001 standard, which strengthened our management system and allowed to decrease resources consumption and improve cost savings, − said Kirill Kuptsinelli, Head of IMS Service, Baltika Breweries, part of the Carlsberg Group. We consider ISM as an important tool ensuring Baltika’s sustainable development and our competitive advantage. It embraces several systems in different spheres of Baltika’s activities that function as one unit.
