March 4, 2010 ST PETERSBURG. Baltika Breweries, the leader on the Russian beer market since 1996 with a market share around 41%, has signed a contract to export its beer to West Africa’s Benin, Togo, Burkina Faso and Cameroon.

Primary sales of the Baltika beer will be centred on these countries’ capitals, Porto Novo, Lome, Ouagadougou and Yaounde. The average cost of a 0.5l bottle of beer will be about $2.00.

Baltika is the only Russian beer producer whose products are exported to Africa. Its beer is certified as premium and is available in other countries of the region, notably Kenya, Sudan, Ethiopia, Uganda, Ghana, Tanzania, Cote d’Ivoire, Guinea, and Guinea-Bissau.

In 2009, Baltika’s sales in African countries stood at about 2.2mn litres, which exceeds the previous year’s figures several times over.
