My Home City Photo Contest in Samara Reaches the Home Stretch

may 3, 2007

Samara My Home City photo contest reached the home stretch, by the City Day in late May its winners will be announced.

As of today, the jury consisting of famous photo artists, architects, designers and representatives of Samara mass media received over 120 works. The website at offers popular voting, where over 400 Samara residents cast their votes. The competition provides each city resident an opportunity to tell his or her story about Samara, share their love for the city, and show city life scenes, preserved for eternity.

"Over the last several years we haveve had very few interesting and original pictures of Samara," says one of judges, photo artist Sergey Osmachkin. "Competition provoked interest in the subject. It is very important that the project attracted not only professional photographers, but also ordinary residents of Samara. Their naive view is frequently fresh and original. We ourselves create myths about our city, and in the end we create the environment where we live, Samara. It is very interesting to me as a photo artist."

Works can be submitted through May 15th. Contest rules can be found at

Winners of the competition will receive prizes, which include a modern photo printer, a camera and, of course, Samara beer from the general partner of the project, Baltika Breweries. The winner of popular voting also will receive a prize from Komsomolskaya Pravda Daily.
